Mississippi: State Suppressor Registration Requirement One Step Closer to Repeal

On Tuesday morning, the House Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks Committee reported Senate Bill 2313, sponsored by State Senator Sean Tindell (R-Gulfport), to the full House for consideration.  SB 2313 eliminates the redundant, unnecessary and rarely-enforced requirement that lawful owners of firearm sound suppressors register those items with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.  Please contact your State Representative and urge them to support SB 2313!

Suppressors -- which have increasingly grown in popularity because they protect hearing, reduce noise complaints and allow for a more accurate shot by reducing recoil and muzzle flinch -- are already highly regulated under the National Firearms Act of 1934.  Forty-one states, including Mississippi, allow citizens to lawfully own these items; thirty-eight states, including Mississippi, allow owners to hunt with them.

Special thanks to Chairman Scott Bounds (R-Philadelphia) for handling this measure in his committee.  Once again, please click the “Take Action” button above to contact your State Representative and urge them to support SB 2313!
