ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE WAIVES RULES TO HEAR AB 35

The NRA has just learned that the Assembly Appropriations Committee will be gathering in an emergency meeting to vote onAB 35 (Shelley), a measure that would require that all new handgun purchasers obtain a license before taking possession of the firearm. The bill was granted reconsideration last week, despite the fact that the author could not garner enough votes to pass it out of committee. In an apparent attempt to bypass the legislative deadlines set by the legislature in order to get a full Assembly floor vote before Friday,Assemblyman Shelley received a rule waiver allowing the committee to hear the bill.

Assemblyman Shelley would not pursue this course of action unless he felt that he was close to getting the votes needed to pass it out of committee.

It is vital that you contact the members of the Assembly Appropriations CommitteeNOW and ask them to vote"NO" on AB 35. In addition, please contact your Assemblyperson and urge them to put pressure on their colleagues, who are members of the Committee, not to bring up the bill for consideration. Thank you.
