Outrage of the Week--"Hypocrite Hillary"

Friday, February 8, 2008

In December, we reported on the hypocrisy of Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), who, in her zeal to discredit Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) on the gun issue for her own political gain, assailed Obama for his past support of "banning all handguns," citing his position as one reason to "raise serious questions about his electability."

And now, with the Democratic Presidential nomination process amounting to what only a few months ago would have been an unthinkable dead heat, we continue to see the political contenders pulling out all of the rhetorical stops in an attempt to disingenuously distinguish themselves as the "candidate of choice" for their constituency.  We also continue to see the candidates test the limits of credulity in the process.

Such is the case for "Hypocrite Hillary," who is at it again.

This week, an ABCNews.com political blog reported on Obama's recent campaigning in Idaho and a statement he made in an attempt to refute his well-documented gun-banning position.  "There are people who say, 'Well, he doesn't believe in the Second Amendment,' even though I come from a state--we've got a lot of hunters in downstate Illinois.  And I have no intention of taking away folks' guns."

Not one to miss an opportunity to make political hay, Hillary responded:  "Well he has to speak to his own record, which has obviously changed over a relatively short period of time."

Now, make no mistake--Obama is clearly anti-gun.  But Hillary's hypocritical swerve to the right on the gun issue is downright laughable!  As we reported in December, Mrs. Clinton's anti-gun record is long and distinguished.  Does she think we'll forget her anti-freedom positions, or does she believe us naive enough to buy the ruse that her anti-gun position is substantially different from Senator Obama's?

We are so well aware of Hillary's position on the Second Amendment that in her 2006 re-election, NRA's Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) issued Clinton a well-deserved "F" grade.

For either Hillary or Obama to now try to convince us that they've changed their entrenched anti-gun stances is not only ridiculous, it's outrageous.
