On Wednesday, the Nebraska Legislature convened its 2014 legislative session.  Your NRA-ILA will be monitoring and reporting on all pro-/anti-gun and pro-/anti-hunting bills throughout this legislative session.  As of today, the following legislation may be considered this year:

Carried Over from the 2013 Legislative Session:

Legislative Bill 392: Sponsored by state Senator Steve Lathrop (SD-12), LB 392 repeals an outdated state firearms statute and brings state law into conformity with federal law by allowing Nebraska residents to purchase long guns in non-contiguous states.

Legislative Bill 390: Sponsored by state Senator Mark Christensen (SD-44), LB 390 prohibits the suspension or limitation on the sale, dispensing or transportation of firearms or ammunition by the Governor during a state of emergency.

Legislative Bill 293: Sponsored by state Senator Bill Kinter (SD-2), LB 293 protects the confidentiality of all concealed handgun permit holders in Nebraska.

Legislative Bill 50: Sponsored by state Senator Brad Ashford (SD-20), LB 50 prohibits unreasonable placement of a firearm where a minor may unlawfully possess it.

Legislative Bill 171: Sponsored by state Senator Dave Bloomfield (SD-17), LB 171 provides for an expedited concealed handgun permit process for applicants who are victims of domestic violence.

Legislative Bill 319: Sponsored by state Senator Amanda McGill (SD-26), LB 319 allows an individual's concealed handgun permit to be revoked for first time offenses occurring on property owned or leased by the state. Current law refers only to land owned by the state.

Legislative Bill 335: Sponsored by state Senator Mark Christensen (SD-44), LB 335 allows gun owners to store a gun in a vehicle parked in a public parking lot if the vehicle is locked and the firearm stored out of sight.

Legislative Bill 451: Sponsored by state Senator Charlie Janssen (SD-15), LB 451 prohibits federal restrictions on firearms, magazines and firearm accessories.

Legislative Bill 592: Sponsored by state Senator Scott Lautenbaugh (SD-18), LB 592 authorizes the carrying of concealed handguns by qualified law enforcement officers and qualified retired law enforcement officers.

Legislative Bill 602: Sponsored by state Senator Dave Bloomfield (SD-17), LB 602 adopts the Nebraska Firearms Freedom Act which clarifies Second Amendment rights in Nebraska.

New Introductions in the 2014 Legislative Session:

Legislative Bill 671: Sponsored by state Senator Ernie Chambers (SD-11), LB 671 prohibits hunting of mountain lions.

Legislative Bill 699: Sponsored by state Senator Tyson Larson (SD-40), SB 699 exempts certain persons with developmental disabilities from Hunter Education requirements.

Legislative Bill 724: Sponsored by state Senator Scott Lautenbaugh (SD-18), SB 724 allows off-duty law enforcement officers to carry firearms in schools.

Your NRA-ILA will keep you informed as these bills progress throughout this important legislative session so that you can contact your legislators and urge them to support the bills that advance your Second Amendment rights and reject those bills that would take away those rights.  Also, please continue to check your e-mail and www.NRAILA.org for updates as well as additional legislation.
