Colorado: Opponents of the Second Amendment Trample Your Rights…Again

The 2015 legislative session adjourned yesterday and with it, ended another opportunity to turn back the unenforceable and unproven anti-gun measures that passed during the 2013 legislative session.

Legislation was introduced this session that would have reversed the egregious 2013 private transfer law, but was voted down along party lines.  Laws such as this have been proven to be ineffective at stopping criminals from getting guns, and even go as far as to keep a husband from loaning his wife a handgun for self protection for more than a few days.

Also introduced this year was bi-partisan legislation that would have repealed the arbitrary limitation on the amount of rounds your magazine can legally hold.  Unfortunately, this bill was killed due to extreme partisanship in the state House, regardless of the overwhelming facts against such a ban, and was only justified by those in the anti-gun camp by unfounded emotional rhetoric.

Other bills which would have extended your ability to better protect your family and the ones you love were introduced this year and just as quickly as they made it to the state House of Representatives, were indefinitely pushed aside.

The mindset of the anti-gun legislators who hold the majority in the state House has not changed since they railroaded through these misguided laws back in 2013.  These anti-gun legislators continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of former New York Mayor and anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg.  The only way to effectuate this type of change is to replace these anti-gun legislators with those who respect the Second Amendment and one’s inherent right to self-defense.

We would like to thank all of the NRA members and supporters of the Second Amendment who took time from their busy lives to show up and testify in favor of repealing these egregious laws and for continually contacting their elected officials to do the same.

Your NRA will continue to stand and fight for the rights of law-abiding gun owners across Colorado.  Please stay tuned to www.nraila.org and your email inbox for further updates.
