Vermont: One Last Shot To Make Your Voice Heard

Governor Phil Scott has scheduled a public signing ceremony for Wednesday, April 11, at 2 p.m. on the steps of the Statehouse.  After weeks of ignoring widespread opposition to the most drastic gun control bill in the history of the state, Gov. Scott seems determined to forge ahead.  Please call Governor Scott at 802-828-3333 and strongly urge him to veto S.55.

Vermont Statehouse
Wednesday, April 11
2:00 pm
Arrive 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm
Wear Orange

NRA and our state association, the Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, have repeatedly asked for your attendance at events, and Vermont gun owners have answered the call on multiple occasions.  This probably will not be the last time that we make such a request, but it's important to let the Governor know that he is not going to sign this bill in obscurity.

This process has been reminiscent of how things are done in New York, not Vermont.  House Speaker Mitzi Johnson and others refused to have a public hearing after S.55 was amended.  There were multiple issues in the bill that were never vetted publicly.  They attempted to silence gun owners, but NRA members and law-abiding Vermont gun owners will not simply abdicate to a tone-deaf Governor and Majority party in the Legislature.

While the Governor may be ignoring those who previously supported him, it's important that he sees the faces of those who he has turned against.  We encourage people to arrive between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., and please wear orange.  It's important that we give nothing to the media to divert from our message that S.55 is bad for Vermonters and this process has been anything but deliberate and open.  Again, we plan to fight this until the bitter end.   Please plan to join fellow NRA members and gun owners in solidarity against S.55 by attending this event on Wednesday in Montpelier.  If you are unable to attend, please contact Governor Scott at 802-828-3333 and strongly urge him to veto S.55.
