Holding Holder Accountable: U.S. House Votes for Contempt Resolution

On Thursday, June 28, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution holding Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over subpoenaed documents about his department's response to the "Fast and Furious" operation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The resolution passed by a bipartisan vote of 255 to 67. Late today, Deputy Attorney General James Cole announced, in a letter to House Speaker John Boehner, that the Department of Justice would not prosecute Holder. This leaves civil enforcement--authorized by a separate House vote Thursday--as the only likely avenue for Congress to enforce the subpoena.

"Attorney General Eric Holder has a long career of opposition to the Second Amendment," said Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the NRA. "His refusal to disclose what many suspect is another example of anti-Second Amendment behavior has brought him to this historic moment of resistance and shame. The people of this country will not be denied a clear understanding of what transpired behind closed doors over a period of years that sure looks like it is connected to a political agenda."

U.N. Arms Trade Treaty Drafting Starts Next Week

For the better part of two decades, NRA has worked tirelessly to oppose any United Nations effort to undermine the constitutional rights of law-abiding American gun owners. The latest attempt by the U.N. and global gun banners to eliminate our Second Amendment freedoms is to include civilian arms in the current Arms Trade Treaty, the language of which will be finalized next month.

As called for in a resolution adopted by the U.N. General Assembly in 2009, a conference will begin this Monday, July 2, in New York City, to draft the treaty's language. The "United Nations Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty" is one of the most serious threats to American gun owners in decades.

Learning Pains at the Brady Campaign? Pain, yes. Learning, no.

Ever since the Brady Campaign was formed in 1974 as the National Council to Control Handguns, it has used over-the-top, fear-mongering, rabble-rousing rhetoric, in an effort to win support for banning all handguns, small handguns, or "assault weapons;" block Right-to-Carry and other laws protecting the right to use firearms for self-defense; and promote its cockamamie Second Amendment theories.

Google Adopts Anti-Gun Policy

Internet giant Google has adopted a new and discriminatory policy with respect to the advertising of firearms, ammunition and related products. The change affects the firm's "Google Shopping" function.

For years, Google has refused to sell preferred advertising to sellers of these goods. That means Google search results don't show those products in featured positions, such as at the top of the page or on the right side of the screen. The products do show up among the regular search results.

Celebrate the 4th of July by Participating in "National Training Week"

Gunlaws.com has come up with an idea for getting more Americans involved in shooting sports; the effort is called "National Training Week" and is designed to promote marksmanship and gun safety across the Country.
