LEGAL & LEGISLATION Rep. Todd Young of Indiana Introduces Two Pro-Gun Bills in the U.S. House of Representatives
Amidst all the frantic activity surrounding the presidential primary and Supreme Court nomination campaigns came some welcome common sense from the Heartland this week as Rep. Todd Young (R-IN) introduced two measures to promote and protect the Second Amendment. House Resolution 656 would express the sense of the U.S. House of Representatives that the vacancy left by Justice Antonin Scalia on the U.S. Supreme Court should honor the late justice’s commitment to the right to keep and bear arms. Specially, it states that “the Senate should not confirm a nominee to the United States Supreme Court whose professional record or statements display opposition to the Second Amendment freedoms of law-abiding gun owners, including the fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms as affirmed in the District of Columbia et al. v. Heller and McDonald et al. v. City of Chicago, Illinois, et al. cases.” |
NEWS High Court Opinion Hardly the “Stunning” Reaffirmation of Heller Some Portray It to Be
On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court caught both friends and foes of the Second Amendment off guard with a summary opinion in the case of Caetano v. Massachusetts, ordering the state’s highest court to reconsider its decision that stun guns are not protected under the Second Amendment. While a clear rebuke to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court for its superficial treatment of the case, it is not, as at least one gun control advocate opined, a “signal” by the Supreme Court’s liberal justices “that they are not eager to overturn Heller.” |
NEWS Unanimous Mississippi Supreme Court Finds NRA Worker Protection Law Provides Legal Remedies
In 2006, NRA strongly supported the passage of a law in Mississippi that upholds the Magnolia State’s well-established public policy of protecting the right of responsible, law-abiding persons to keep and bear arms for self-defense. The law states that, subject to narrow exceptions, “a public or private employer may not establish, maintain, or enforce any policy or rule that has the effect of prohibiting a person from transporting or storing a firearm in a locked vehicle in any … designated parking area.” On Thursday, all nine Mississippi Supreme Court justices unanimously held that the law provides an employee who complies with its terms a right of action for unlawful termination. |
NEWS Snoopers’ Charter Reveals Extent of UK Gun Owner Surveillance; Provides Warning for Americans
It is often pointed out that UK government officials treat George Orwell’s “1984” less like the dire warning it was intended to be, and more as an instruction manual. Further evidence of this was provided this week when an astute member of the UK shooting community brought attention to an admission that UK intelligence agencies are using centralized records of UK firearm owners in their efforts to target “terrorists.” |

Freedom is fleeting without the means to protect it. That is the lesson that so many in European nations have learned the hard way, finding themselves helpless at the hands of predatory criminals and terrorists.
