Holdup men would do well to avoid the Pembroke Park, Fla., market owned by Samir and Adel Dimiati. Five months after Adel killed a knife-wielding criminal, another robber announced a stickup and tried to jump the counter. Samir grabbed the crook's gun arm with one hand and his own .45 automatic with the other and shot the thief twice, putting him and his two accomplices to flight. The wounded criminal collapsed on the sidewalk and later died at a local hospital. "I think somebody ought to give them a medal," a neighboring merchant said.

On May 8, 2024, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld California’s law requiring California’s Department of Justice to provide firearm purchasers’ and CCW applicants’ information to research institutions.
