Between 1993-1997, the number of privately owned firearms in the United States rose by nearly 20 million. Disproving the anti-gun viewpoint that more guns automatically means more crime, the Bureau of Justice Statistics has just released a study showing that during the same period, the number of gunshot wounds from assaults treated in hospital emergency departments fell by 39% and homicides committed with firearms dropped 27%.
