"No one believes in safe and responsible firearm ownership more than the 4.3 million members of the National Rifle Association. That is why we have been the nation`s leaders in teaching firearm safety for the past 130 years. The problem with anti-gun groups like Handgun Control Inc., The Center to Prevent Handgun Violence, and Americans for Gun Safety is not one of political calculation or strategy, but one of fundamental mission.
"Poll after poll show that the overwhelming majority of Americans support lawful, responsible firearm ownership. According to a January 2001 Zogby poll, in the last election, 70% of Americans who went to the polls in all 50 states felt no new gun-control laws should be passed and more money should be spent to enforce the existing laws against violent criminals.
"No redesigning of political strategy can bring these anti-fundamental rights organizations into the mainstream of America. And, while these other groups flounder on political strategy or cosmetic name changes, NRA will continue to work on reducing violent crime and keeping families safe by supporting proven programs like Project Exile."
