RIGHT TO CARRY ALERT FOR COLORADO

Wednesday, April 10, 2002

RIGHT TO CARRY HAS PASSED OUT OF COMMITTEE AND WILL BE VOTED ON SOON!

Our best opportunity to pass a uniform Right to Carry bill is now at hand. House Bill 1410 (sponsored by Representative Lois Tochtrop, D-34, and Senator Ken Chlouber, R-4) passed the Civil Justice committee on April 5th and will come up for a vote in the House soon. This bill will give all law-abiding citizens who pass a criminal background check and complete a firearms safety training course the ability to obtain a carry permit to carry a handgun concealed to protect themselves and their families outside the home. House Bill 1410 is very similar to Senator Chlouber`s previous Right to Carry bill, which the Senate killed earlier this year. However, this time leadership in both parties have agreed to give Right to Carry a fair hearing.

YOU ARE THE FRONT LINE IN THIS FIGHT AND YOUR HELP IS NEEDED.

With your phone calls, e-mails, and letters, we can ensure that our lawmakers know that House Bill 1410 is good for Colorado. It is vital that you contact your State Representative and urge him or her to support this important Right to Carry bill. Be sure to thank your lawmaker if they are a co-sponsor of HB 1410. You can use the Write Your Reps tool to e-mail your Representative directly and get their direct phone number.  You can also write letters to your local newspapers supporting HB 1410. For information on writing your newspaper, click here.

DON’T STOP THERE !

START TO FOCUS ON THE STATE SENATE AS WELL.

HB 1410 is expected to move through the State House quickly, so it will not be long before it is under consideration by the Senate. You can help pave the way for HB1410 by contacting your Senator and telling him or her to support this bill when it comes before them. Contact you Senator now at (303) 866-2316, or by using the Write Your Reps tool to e-mail your Senator.

Please be cordial when speaking to lawmakers and their staff as insults and rudeness will only set us back. There is no need for such things when we have the facts and the truth on our side.
