New handgun restrictions have been introduced in Queensland parliament. Police Minister Tony McGrady said an amnesty for the surrendering of handguns would be in place from July 1 to Jan. 1, 2004, with compensation available to dealers and sporting shooters. Sporting shooters will be limited to handguns with a maximum .38 cal. and a maximum 10-shot magazine, with minimum barrel lengths applying for specific types of pistols.
