NRA-PVF Endorses John Thune for U.S. Senate

Tuesday, October 26, 2004

FAIRFAX, VA—The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) announces its endorsement of John Thune for U.S. Senate in South Dakota.

“John Thune, an NRA-PVF ‘A’ rated candidate, agrees with South Dakotans that the Constitution gives law-abiding citizens the right to keep and bear arms.  He supports freedom and believes the key to fighting crime is to enforce existing laws,” Chris W. Cox, NRA-PVF Chief Lobbyist stated.

John’s Second Amendment beliefs stand in stark contrast to Tom Daschle’s.  In fact, Daschle has repeatedly voted for more gun control, restricting law-abiding South Dakotans’ firearms rights.  Serving in the U.S. House, John Thune supported legislation to curb frivolous lawsuits against gun manufacturers for gun-related harm caused by criminals.  Meanwhile, Tom Daschle worked behind the scenes to kill it,” Cox added.

Thune stated, "I believe that the right of law-abiding citizens to own and bear a firearm is guaranteed by the Second Amendment. We must vigilantly protect that right and preserve it for future generations."

Cox continued, “South Dakotan gun owners and hunters must remember Daschle’s two-faced history – saying one thing in South Dakota but voting the opposite way in Washington D.C.  John Thune believes in South Dakota values, and will be a true and consistent friend in the U.S. Senate.”

John Thune will join NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and Chief Lobbyist Chris W. Cox for a campaign rally in Sioux Falls, South Dakota Saturday, October 30.
