Springfield, MO—Today, Missouri Representative Brian Munzlinger (R-1) introduced the "Hunting Heritage Protection Areas Act", a National Rifle Association (NRA)-backed bill designed to protect Missouri hunting lands from over-development.
“Missouri is home to some of the richest and most pristine wildlife habitats in the world. Hunters here continue to be leaders in ensuring sound wildlife management and conservation practices,” said Chris W. Cox, NRA’s chief lobbyist. “However, over-development is threatening Missouri's critically important wildlife habitats and if left unchecked, it will destroy the delicate balance necessary to sustain many species of game and migratory waterfowl.”
Hunting is a recreational activity that includes people of all ages and genders and has proven to be a critical source of revenue for Missouri's state government conservation and natural resource agencies. Hunting and fishing licenses, permits and stamps, and funds from excise taxes on all goods used by hunters generate more than $35 million a year for wildlife conservation, research, and management programs in Missouri.
“HB 2067, the ‘Hunting Heritage Protection Areas Act’ will help preserve land used for agriculture, hunting, trapping and fishing. We are grateful to Representative Brian Munzlinger for his active leadership on this important matter” concluded Cox. “This Act will ensure the conservation of some of North America's most critical wildlife habitats. It is an investment that will help guarantee future generations of hunters to enjoy these natural resources and continue the legacy of responsible wildlife management and conservation.”
