Albemarle County, Virgina Board of Supervisors Discussing Possible Shooting Ban Options!

Tuesday, December 12, 2006

The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors will hold a “work session” Wednesday, December 13, at 3:00 P.M. in the Lane Auditorium, County Office Building, McIntire Road.

The purpose of this “work session” is to continue the discussion of possible shooting ban options.  The Board of Supervisors Staff has prepared six “Alternative Proposals to Regulate the Discharge of Firearms.”  Among the possible options presented are: possible definitions, exceptions, and regulatory options and six alternatives for the Board’s discussion.  Each alternative has a brief analysis of advantages and disadvantages.  If the Board reaches consensus on an alternative approach, the County Attorney will then draft an ordinance that would implement that approach which can then be set for public hearing.  A complete listing of the alternative options may be found at:  www.albemarle.org/upload/images/Forms_Center/Departments/Board_of_Supervisors
/Forms/Agenda/2006Files/20061213/Firearmsexecsummary.htm

This is not a public hearing.  However, attendees may again have the opportunity to express their views to the Board. If you live in Albemarle County, shoot competitively or hunt in Albemarle, it is important that you make every effort to either attend the meeting, or contact the Board of Supervisors.  Current state code, as well as county ordinances, already provide various prohibitions and penalties for the reckless and/or dangerous discharge of firearms.  Please encourage the Board to maintain the county's current firearms discharge ordinance and work to enforce the existing provisions at their disposal.

If you are unable to attend, please contact the Board of Supervisors:
