During the last two legislative session days prior to adjourning for a ten-day Spring Break, the Missouri Senate worked overtime to pass Senate Bill 257, the “Missouri Disaster Recovery Protection Act,” sponsored by State Senator Kevin Engler (R-3).
As you know, this critical measure will ensure that your Second Amendment rights shall not be suspended during an emergency or disaster.
During Second Reading of SB257 on Wednesday evening, a host of pro-Second Amendment Senators turned back two anti-gun amendments offered by State Senator Joan Bray (D-24), each amendment defeated by 27-7 votes. A third anti-gun amendment, also proposed by Senator Bray, was ruled to be "out of order," and the bill was subsequently perfected and placed on the calendar for Third Reading.
On Thursday, just prior to adjourning for Spring Break, Senate Bill 257 was once again brought to the floor, and passed by an overwhelming vote of 30-4!
Our special thanks to Senator Engler for his expert handling of the bill on the floor, as well as to all of the pro-freedom Senators who fought off attempts to weaken the bill!
SB257 now moves to the House for consideration following Spring Break.
Please be sure to contact your State Representative at (573) 751-3659 and strongly encourage him or her to support and vote for SB257 in its current form.
