This week, two NRA-backed bills that will expand protections for shooting ranges and gun club facilities in Mississippi were introduced.
Senate Bill 2466 sponsored by State Senator Walter Michel (R-25) and House Bill 346 authored by State Representative Warner McBride (D-10), would prohibit local governments from placing restrictions on existing shooting ranges by prohibiting any new laws or ordinances from being enacted. Existing shooting ranges would be allowed to continue to perform repairs, remodeling, reasonably expand the facilities, and expand their membership base.
SB2466 has been referred to the Senate Municipalities Committee as well as the Senate County Affairs Committee. HB346 has been sent to the House Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Committee and the House Judiciary B Committee. Hearing dates have not been scheduled.
Please contact your State Legislators and respectfully urge them to support both SB 2466 and HB 346. Contact information can be found here.
