Elbert County, Colorado: Boy Scouts of America Shooting Education Center Needs Your Support!

Monday, January 5, 2009

For years, the Boy Scouts of America have used Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch in Elbert County as an educational facility, to include the education on the safe use of rifles, shotguns, handguns and muzzleloaders.

The Boy Scouts applied for a Special Use Permit from Elbert County to relocate the shooting range facility, “The Travis Facility,” further into the interior of Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch.  The Boy Scouts have conducted extensive and costly tests to ensure the selection of the new site follows all noise, lead and environmental laws, along with moving the Travis facility further away from the few anti-gun complaining neighbors.

Due to these few anti-gun property owners, who live near Peaceful Valley, the County has unfairly delayed approving the Boy Scouts permit request.  This delay is putting the 2009 shooting programs at risk of being canceled.  Most importantly, without the Travis Facility, the Boy Scout community will lose an essential firearms safety-training venue and put an end to one of the nations most highly recognized firearms education programs in the Denver area.

Do not let the frivolous complaints of a few anti-gun property owners put a stop to an important educational experience and American heritage.

Please attend the upcoming hearing.  Testimony can be given.
