Senate Bill 358 will be heard by the Senate Public Safety and Military Affairs Committee on Tuesday, February 3 at 1:15 p.m. in Room 229 of the State Capitol. Introduced by State Senator Samuel Slom (R-8), SB358 would prohibit a person or government entity from seizing firearms or ammunition during a declared state of emergency.
This nationally recognized issue, brought forward as a result of the firearm confiscations during Hurricane Katrina, has swept across the country and is now before the Hawaii Legislature. It is vital that NRA members contact the members of the Senate Public Safety and Military Affairs Committee and express their strong support. Contact information can be found below.
House Bill 412, a measure that bans .50 caliber BMG rifles and the ammunition, has been re-introduced in the 2009 Legislative Session.
This bill could be heard in the House Public Safety Committee as early as Thursday, February 5. The hearing has not been posted as of this date, however it is expected to be brought up very soon.
It is vital that NRA members keep on top of the happenings in Honolulu. Once the hearing notice is announced, we will be instructing our Hawaii members as to how best communicate opposition to HB 12 since the process for testimony has changed from past sessions.
