On Wednesday, March 11, House File 193, passed out of the House Public Safety Committee by a vote of 18-3. Introduced by State Representative Clel Baudler (R-58), HF 193 is currently awaiting action on the floor of the House.
Unfortunately, last week's alert incorrectly referred to this as a "shall-issue" bill. We apologize for that mistake. HF 193 will make various important improvements to Iowa’s current permit to carry law, including: requiring written notification to those whose permits are denied within 15 business days, expanding the list of reciprocal states, allowing permit applicants to appeal a permit denial to an administrative law judge, and even increasing the validity of the permits from one to three years.
