Oklahoma Legislature Still Working on Parking Lot Expansion Bill in the Final Weeks of Session!

Friday, May 13, 2011

Action Still Needed: Please Contact State Senators on the Conference Committee Today!

On May 10, the House Conference Committee on Public Safety, Judiciary and Military Affairs passed House Bill 1652, the “Parking Lot/Employee Protection” expansion bill, by a 7 to 0 vote. This measure must now receive approval from the Senate conference committee before it can be put to a floor vote in both chambers. Only after these steps will this bill be sent to Governor Mary Fallin for her signature.

House Bill 1652, authored by state Representative John Enns (R-41) in the House and by state Senators Steve Russell (R-45) and Anthony Sykes (R-24) in the Senate, would allow concealed carry permit holders to store their firearms in their locked private vehicles on technology center campuses and in parking lots set aside for use by governmental entities and professional sporting events.  The Oklahoma Legislature is under obligation to complete the people’s business by Friday, May 27, but may end this session at any point before that date.  It is extremely important for NRA members to make their voices heard to ensure HB 1652 continues to move through the legislative process to the Governor.

Your state legislators are under heavy pressure from anti-gun opponents and higher education lobbyists who are trying to kill or weaken this bill.  Please contact members of the Senate conference committee TODAY to respectfully urge their support of HB 1652.
