Pro-Gun Bills Must be Heard by Alabama House of Representatives Tomorrow

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Contact your state Representative TODAY to SUPPORT HB 516 and HB 445!

Two important NRA-backed gun bills are scheduled for consideration by the Alabama House of Representatives tomorrow.  House Bill 516 and House Bill 445 are on the House agenda and need to be passed to have any chance in being considered by the Alabama Senate this year.

House Bill 516, gun owner privacy protection legislation, sponsored by state Representative Micky Hammon (R-4), would prohibit medical practitioners from requiring patients to divulge information about private firearm ownership.  HB 516 would also bar practitioners from denying medical care to patients who refuse to disclose such information about firearms, ammunition or storage methods.

House Bill 445, firearms destruction prevention legislation, sponsored by state Representative Blaine Galliher (R-30), has been amended with NRA-backed language to require the Department of Public Safety to sell a working firearm that has been lawfully forfeited to law enforcement or a decommissioned firearm to a federally licensed firearm dealer with proceeds being deposited into the general fund.  Prior to the sale, the Department of Public Safety must use reasonable efforts to determine and return a firearm to its lawful owner if was lost or stolen.

Please contact your state Representative and urge him or her to support HB 516 and HB 445 without any anti-gun amendments.  Contact information for your state Representative can be found by clicking here.
