NRA-Backed Bills Progress in Louisiana Legislature

Thursday, June 9, 2011

Yesterday, the House Committee on Administration of Criminal Justice unanimously passed Senate Bill 39 by a voice vote, sending it to the House floor for consideration.  Sponsored by state Senators Eric LaFleur (D-28) and Neil Riser (R-32), SB 39 would clarify that Louisianans may purchase a long gun in any state, and allow a citizen of any other state to purchase a long gun in Louisiana, so long as both states allow such purchases. For more information on SB 39, please click here.

Please contact your state Representative today and respectfully urge him or her to support SB 39 on the House floor.  To contact your state Representative please click here.

Also yesterday, the Senate unanimously approved House Bill 169 and House Bill 294, sending them to Governor Bobby Jindal’s desk for his consideration.

HB 169, introduced by state Representative Cameron Henry (R-82), would allow Louisianans to use firearms fitted with lawfully-possessed sound suppressors while hunting nongame nuisance quadrupeds including feral hogs, coyotes, armadillos, nutria and beaver.  Sound suppressors reduce noise complaints, recoil, and hearing loss while increasing accuracy.

HB 294, introduced by state Representative Major Thibaut (D-18), would remove the requirement to acquire a special permit to trap feral hogs and remove the limitation on the types of firearms used for hunting nongame nuisance quadrupeds including feral hogs, coyotes, armadillos, nutria, and beaver.

Please contact Governor Jindal today and respectfully ask him to sign into law both HB 169 and HB 294.
