Tennessee: Employee Protection Legislation Scheduled for Senate Committee Hearing on Tuesday

Friday, February 17, 2012

NRA-drafted Senate Bill 3002 and Senate Bill 2992 were originally scheduled to be heard on February 14 in their respective Senate committees, but these hearings were pushed back to Tuesday, February 21.  During these hearings, public testimony will be taken and on Tuesday, March 6, these Senate committees will vote on SB 3002 and SB 2992.

Introduced by state Senator Mike Faulk (R-4) and cosponsored by Senator Mae Beavers (R-17) and Senator Dolores Gresham (R-26), SB 3002 would recognize that hard-working Tennesseans’ right to self-defense does not end when they drive onto their employer’s property or into publicly accessible parking lots.  This bill would allow firearms to be stored out of sight in a locked private vehicle.  Senate Bill 3002 will be heard in the state Senate Judiciary Committee.

SB 2992, also introduced by state Senator Mike Faulk (R-4), is a Firearm Discrimination Prevention bill that would protect law-abiding gun owners from anti-gun policies by employers across the state, including forced firearm registration, random vehicle firearm searches, and “gun zone” parking lots for gun owning employees. SB 2992 will be heard in the state Senate Commerce, Labor & Agriculture Committee.

Please contact members of these two Senate committees today in support of SB 3002 and SB 2992 and also urge themto vote “NO” on any anti-gun amendments. Please urge them to cosponsor and vote in favor of these pro-gun measures when they come before their committee.  Their contact information is provided below.
