Pro-Gun Legislation on the Move in Mississippi

Three NRA-Backed Bills Pass Mississippi House and Head to Senate

Yesterday, the Mississippi House of Representatives voted to approve three NRA-backed bills, which will now be sent to the state Senate for its consideration. It is important that you contact your state Senator today and urge him or her support for the following pro-Second Amendment bills:

House Bill 455, by state Representative Andy Gipson (R-77), passed in the state House by a 98 to 21 vote.  This legislation seeks to repeal the state recordkeeping requirement for licensed firearm dealers.  Federal law requires licensed dealers to keep detailed records of sale and limits the release of this information to bona fide criminal investigations.  Similar state requirements – which allow the general public to view records on law-abiding gun purchasers -- are redundant, costly and unnecessary.

House Bill 627, by state Representative Gary Chism (R-37), passed the House in by a 92 to 28 vote, but was held on a motion to reconsider.  This legislation, if enacted, would prohibit state and local participation in gun “buy-back” programs unless the agency or governmental entity offers all surrendered firearms for sale at auction to federal firearm licensed dealers.

State House members voted 106 to 12 to approve House Bill 695, by state Representative John Moore (R-60).  This bill would require Mississippi to recognize any valid out-of-state carry permit, a change which will ultimately lead to Mississippi carry permits being honored by more states.

HB 455, HB 627 and HB 695 will move to the Senate for consideration.  Your NRA-ILA will continue to update you as these pro-Second Amendment measures make their way through the legislative process.

Please contact your state Senator TODAY and urge him or her to support these three pro-gun measures!   You can leave a message for your state Senator in Jackson by calling (601) 359-3770.
