Obama Looks "Down Under" For Gun Control Model

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

Do you want to know where President Barack Obama is ultimately headed with his gun control edicts? Look no further than his second embrace of the tyranny of Australia’s massive gun “buyback” program. Australia’s edicts resulted in the confiscation and destruction of more than 1 million registered rifles, shotguns and handguns forcibly taken from licensed gun owners.

Obama’s latest endorsement of Australia’s 1990s roundup and destruction of privately owned firearms came during an online, social media Q&A, in which the president once again invoked the Aussie government’s massive gun confiscation as
his answer to mass killers.

Citing the horrific murders of school children in Newtown, Conn., which sparked back-room, dark-of-the-night confiscatory gun bans in that state and in New York, Obama blasted America saying, “There’s no advanced, developed country that would put up with this.”

Imposing Australia’s response to similar mass murder, he said, is top on his agenda. That nation “basically imposed very severe, tough gun laws. …”

Obama wants Americans to believe that taking and destroying guns owned by
law-abiding citizens will stop remorseless killers from obtaining guns to inflict horrific, random violence.

That notion is nothing short of senseless.

During the doubtless pre-rehearsed online session, Obama complained that failure to enact his gun control agenda was the “biggest frustration” of his presidency.

“[W]e couldn’t even get a background check bill to make sure that if you’re
going to buy a weapon you have to actually go through a fairly rigorous process so we know who you are, so that you just can’t walk up to a store and buy a semi-automatic weapon. …”

Ignore the fact that the President of the United States is clueless as to current federal law. But understand that he sees “universal background checks” in the same light that we see it—a national scheme to register gun owners in a massive database.

Read his words:

“… So we know who you are. …” That defines what he and his allies in Congress are after as their “common sense” first step. Make no mistake, his “universal background check” is a prelude to universal registration, and as a friend in Australia told me, “Don’t ever let them register your guns. If they know you have them, they can come and take them, and there is no resisting.”

Knowing who you are and what guns you own was indeed the key to the massive gun theft by government in Australia that saw hundreds of thousands of honest, law-abiding citizens disarmed.

President Obama first endorsed Australia’s firearm destruction program in his reaction to the Sept. 16, 2013, multiple, indiscriminate shotgun murders committed by a deranged killer—a defense contractor with proper I.D., who passed a background check before purchasing his firearm, and who walked past high-security posts at the U.S. Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.

“The U.S. president, Barack Obama, says it’s time for America to follow the example of countries like Australia when it comes to gun control.” That’s how the Australian Broadcast Corporation described Obama’s first declaration.

Besides being hailed in the Australian press, Obama’s latest embrace of private firearm destruction was applauded in Vladimir Putin’s government-run media. Russia Today headlined its coverage with, “Obama cites Australia’s gun confiscation as example for U.S.” and opined: “If a buyback program and the introduction of new laws were considered in the U.S. the same affect seen in Australia would mean that as many as 40 million firearms would be taken away.”

For those who say such an event would not be possible in America because of our Second Amendment, consider this: If Obama were to fill two conservative or swing vacancies on the U.S. Supreme Court with the likes of U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., the Second Amendment’s protection of an individual right to own firearms could be virtually erased from the Bill of Rights.

Given the current majority in the U.S. Senate, headed by U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, d-Nev., there would be little doubt that a Chuck Schumer nomination would squeak through.

But the most important aspect of Obama’s Australia threat is that it is a strategic vision—a step-at-a-time transformation to impose his Australian model on our nation.

Obama claims his motivation for all of this is to prevent the unpreventable—mass killings like Newtown.

“My biggest frustration so far is the fact that this society has not been willing to take some basic steps to keep guns out of the hands of people who can do just unbelievable damage.

We’re the only developed country on earth where this happens.”In truth, we are the only developed country on earth with a constitution that recognizes the God-given right to keep and bear arms, and the human right of individual armed defense of self, family, home and country.

In response to Obama’s latest pitch, the president’s chief ally in the U.S. Senate, Harry Reid, said, “Universal background checks would be a good start.”

“Good start.” “First step.” It’s always the same. You have to ask, “good start” to what?

Remember, Australia’s ban didn’t come all at once, it was attained by increments. The “good start” in Australia, as in the United Kingdom with its massive gun confiscation and destruction, began with registration and licensing.

It’s defined by the old saying that goes, “You don’t cook a frog by tossing him into boiling water. You turn up the heat slowly.”

When I run into people who doubt this threat to our liberty, I say, listen to the president. Take him at his word. He has a plan. Let me spell it out: A-U-S-T-R-A-L-I-A.

Combine what the media is pushing as a “mild” restriction—“universal background checks”—with what Obama is clearly posing as his radical final step. They are one in the same. Obama means to erase the Second Amendment by any means possible.

The only way he can be stopped is at the ballot box on November 4 by electing pro-freedom majorities in both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives to stop such a wholesale theft of our rights and cherished liberties.
