Virginia: 2015 Legislative Session is Now Underway

Yesterday, the Virginia General Assembly convened its 2015 legislative session.  Your NRA-ILA will be monitoring and reporting on all gun- and hunting-related bills throughout the session.

NRA is pleased to announce that the first two gun bills of the year to be heard in committees and subcommittees were voted out favorably.  Today, the Senate Agriculture and Rural Development Committee unanimously passed Senate Bill 838.  Sponsored by Senator Kenneth Alexander (D-5), SB 838 would extend the entitlement to obtain a state resident license to hunt, trap, or fish to the dependents of members of the armed forces who are stationed in Virginia.  SB 838 has been sent to the full Senate for their consideration.   Yesterday, the House Courts of Justice - Criminal Law Subcommittee unanimously passed House Bill 1666.  Sponsored by pro-gun Delegate Buddy Fowler (R-55), HB 1666 would allow former residents of Virginia to petition to have their gun rights restored in the same manner as residents.  HB 1666 has been sent to the full House Courts of Justice Committee.

Your NRA-ILA will keep you informed as these bills, and others, progress throughout this important legislative session so that you can contact your state legislators and urge them to support the legislation that advances your Second Amendment rights and oppose those bills that would take away those rights.  A more detailed account of bills already introduced this session will be available shortly.  Please continue to check your email and www.NRAILA.org for updates.
