Minnesota: Emergency Powers Bill to Receive House Committee Hearing Tomorrow

Tomorrow, at 6:00 p.m., House File 722, NRA-backed emergency powers protection legislation, will receive a hearing in the House Civil Law and Data Practices Committee.  This critical Second Amendment protection needs your active support!

Authored by Representatives Jim Newberger (R-15B), Eric Lucero (R-30B) and Josh Heintzeman (R-10A), HF 722 would prohibit any government agency from confiscating or regulating the lawful possession, carrying, transfer, transportation and defensive use of firearms or ammunition during a state of emergency.  This legislation would protect citizens of Minnesota from a violation of their constitutional rights reminiscent of what occurred in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, where law-abiding citizens were stripped of their lawfully owned firearms by overzealous government officials, leaving them defenseless and unable to protect their families and property.  This language was passed overwhelmingly by the House and Senate in 2012, but was part of a bill which Governor Dayton unfortunately vetoed.

It is critical that you use the contact information provided below to call and email members of the House Civil Law and Data Practices Committee TODAY and urge them to vote in SUPPORT of HF 722 when it comes before them tomorrow.  Remind them that your Second Amendment rights and inherent right to self-defense should not be compromised during evacuations and a state of emergency.
