Georgia: Important Campus Carry Legislation Passes House Committee

Yesterday, February 16, the Georgia House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee passed House Bill 859 on a 10-3 vote.  HB 859, sponsored by Representative Rick Jasperse (R-11), seeks to amend restrictions in state law that prohibit law-abiding Georgia Weapons License (GWL) holders from being able to protect themselves on college and university campuses.

HB 859 would allow law-abiding GWL holders to carry when he or she is in or on certain buildings or real property owned by or leased to any public technical school, vocational school, college, university, or other institution of postsecondary education.  HB 859 now moves to the House Rules Committee where it will wait for further consideration.  Please contact members of the House Rules Committee and urge them to support HB 859 when it comes up for a vote.

Please continue checking www.NRAILA.org and your email for further updates and action items as legislation progresses through the Georgia General Assembly.
