FACT CHECK: Gun Control Advocate Mark Kelly Misleads on Gun Issue

Hours before the issue of gun control took center stage at the Democratic National Convention, Mark Kelly, a leading gun control advocate, told what’s become a classic lie of the Hillary Clinton camp – that Clinton supports the Second Amendment and doesn’t wish to see it abolished.

Here's what Kelly said: "Hillary Clinton, no matter what the NRA says or the Republican nominee, Hillary Clinton is not calling for a change in the Second Amendment or a repeal of the Second Amendment.

We’ve heard this claim before, and we’ve watched as reporters allow this false narrative to spread. Clinton is calculating, and she can’t be trusted. Here’s the proof:

Clinton was caught and recorded at a closed-door political event late last year saying, "The Supreme Court got it wrong on the Second Amendment, and I am going to make that case every chance I get."

The Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that Americans have the right to keep a firearm in their homes for self-defense. That’s all the court said. The case, known as District of Columbia v. Heller, guarantees the individual right to gun ownership – the core tenant of the Second Amendment. If Hillary Clinton thinks that’s wrong, then she thinks the Second Amendment is wrong. It’s as simple as that.

Further, Hillary Clinton supports total gun confiscation. How do we know? She SAID so. At a Town Hall late last year, Clinton was asked why America can’t adopt the Australia model of total gun confiscation.

Her response: "Certainly, the Australia example is worth looking at."
