Public Safety and Security Policy and Finance Committee Hearing
Wednesday, March 8, 2017
10:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Minnesota State Capitol
10 State Office Building

HF 188 would eliminate the requirement to obtain a permit in order to lawfully carry.  This bill recognizes a law-abiding adult’s unconditional Right to Keep and Bear Arms for self-defense in the manner he or she chooses.  Self-defense situations are difficult, if not impossible, to anticipate.  Accordingly, a law-abiding adult’s right to defend themselves in such situations should not be conditioned by government-mandated time delays and taxes.  HF 188 does not eliminate Minnesota’s current carry permitting system.  An optional carry permit will still be available for Minnesotans who choose to obtain one.

HF 238 would make numerous reforms to Minnesota’s self-defense laws, including the elimination of the duty to retreat in cases of self-defense.

Both HF 188 and HF 238 enhance your fundamental right to self-defense.

Again, please click the “Take Action” button above to contact the committee members in support of these important bills!  Your NRA-ILA will keep you updated on these bills as they progress through the Minnesota Legislature.
