Pro-Gun Bills Pending in South Carolina Legislature

This week, state Representative Mike Pitts (R-14) introduced H. 3930, an NRA-supported permitless carry bill.  This bill was heard in the House Judiciary Constitutional Laws Subcommittee on Thursday where it was reported out with no opposition.  The bill will now go to the full House Judiciary Committee for consideration.  Please contact members of the House Judiciary Committee and urge them to support H. 3930, with no weakening amendments, when it is brought up for consideration!  Click the “Take Action” button below to contact the committee members.

Additionally, H. 3240, an NRA-supported bill which would establish that South Carolina recognizes all valid Right-to-Carry (RTC) permits issued by other states, was not taken up for consideration this week.  This delay, however, does not indicate that the bill is in danger of failing.  Due to several other legislative factors, the bill’s sponsor, state Representative Alan Clemmons (R-107), has agreed to delay consideration of the bill.  Please continue to contact your state Representative and urge them to support H. 3240 when it is brought up for consideration, and to oppose any amendments that would weaken its intent to establish a true recognition standard for RTC permits in South Carolina.

Finally, H. 3429 is still pending in the Senate Judiciary Committee.  H. 3429, also introduced by state Representative Clemmons, is NRA-ILA supported legislation that seeks to amend South Carolina’s bankruptcy laws and recognize the fundamental right to personal protection by ensuring citizens who have fallen on hard times, financially, will not be required to sell all of their firearms maintained for personal protection in order to satisfy their debts.  H. 3429 allows for the retention of any firearms, provided the total value does not exceed $10,000.00.  Please contact members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and urge them to support this important reform!

Click the “Take Action” button above to contact members of the respective committees in support of H. 3930, H. 3240 and H. 3429!  Stay tuned to your email inbox and www.nraila.org for further updates on these bills as they progress through the South Carolina Legislature.
