Wyoming: Self-Defense Legislation Vetoed Prior to Deadline

On Tuesday, Governor Matt Mead vetoed NRA-backed House Bill 137 that was passed with overwhelming support from the Wyoming Legislature. 

House Bill 137 sought to allow an individual with a valid concealed carry permit to lawfully carry a concealed firearm in any meeting of a government entity, including the state Legislature.  Individuals with concealed carry permits are some of the most responsible and law-abiding citizens in Wyoming and should not be prevented from carrying a firearm for self-defense.

Your NRA-ILA will continue to fight to pass this and other important pro-gun bills in future sessions.

Governor Matt Mead did sign into law House Bill 194 and House Bill 235.

House Bill 194 allows the board of trustees in each school district to adopt rules and regulations to allow the possession of firearms on school property by school district employees possessing a valid concealed carry license.  HB 194 goes into effect on July 1, 2017.

House Bill 235 expands Wyoming’s mentored hunting law by allowing those under the age of 14, who have not yet completed a hunting safety course, to hunt small game birds while accompanied by a person who has obtained a certificate of competency and safety in the use and handling of firearms, without limitation on the number of years.  Previously, participants were limited to one year.  HB 235 goes into effect on July 1, 2017.
