New Georgia Law Expands Self-defense Options

Thursday, April 20, 2017

Fairfax, Va.— The National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) today praised Georgia lawmakers and Gov. Nathan Deal for signing into law a measure that would give law-abiding Georgians greater freedom to travel with their firearms. House Bill 406, signed into law earlier this month as Act 15, means valid concealed carry permits from Georgia will be recognized in Virginia and vice versa.

“This new law gives concealed carry permit holders in Georgia and Virginia greater freedom and peace of mind when traveling with their firearm,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRA-ILA. “We know that threats don’t end at the state border and neither should our right to defend ourselves. Act 15 is part of a national movement to give law-abiding citizens more freedom to exercise their Second Amendment rights.”

Act 15 went into effect earlier this month and brings the number of states Georgia has reciprocity agreements with to 32.

“On behalf of the NRA’s five-million members, I want to thank Gov. Deal, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr and the Virginia State Police for their support of our Second Amendment freedoms,” concluded Cox.

The following states recognize valid concealed carry permits issued by the state of Georgia:

 Alabama             Alaska

Arizona                 Arkansas

Colorado              Florida

Idaho                    Indiana

Iowa                      Kansas

Kentucky             Louisiana

Maine                   Michigan

Mississippi          Missouri

Montana             New Hampshire

North Carolina   North Dakota

Ohio                      Oklahoma

Pennsylvania     South Carolina

South Dakota     Tennessee

Texas                    Utah

West Virginia     Wisconsin

Wyoming           Virginia
