Security guard shoots gunman inside North Las Vegas 7-Eleven

A confrontation on Sunday night might have led to a deadly shooting this morning at a North Las Vegas convenience store, News 3 has learned. The gunman’s family has identified him as 19-year-old Geraldo Moncayo. Fabiola Grajeda says one bad decision may have cost her cousin his life. “He had an argument last night with the clerks from 7-Eleven, and they got in a fight. One of the guys from 7- Eleven knocked his teeth out and really beat him. He had to go to the hospital,” Grajeda said. Just before 5 a.m. Monday, Grajeda says Moncayo went back to the 7-Eleven on Lake Mead and Pecos. “He came back with one of his friends, and they say he started shooting up to the ceiling,” she explained.

It just so happened, an armed security guard was working in the convenience store. “One of the security guards went in and shot him (Moncayo) in the back,” said Grajeda. Moncayo died, and now North Las Vegas Police investigators are trying to figure out if Moncayo’s family’s story lines up with the clerk’s. “We're just lucky at this time nobody else was struck with the gunfire inside that store,” said North Las Vegas Police Department Officer Ann Cavaricci. For Grajeda, it’s all senseless. She says she does not defend what her cousin did. “I know he did something wrong. I know that wasn't the way he was supposed to deal with it,” she noted. Police have not yet confirmed a fight took place last night inside the 7-Eleven. News 3 is expecting to learn quite a bit more as the police investigation continues.
