Michigan: Constitutional/Permitless Carry Legislation Passes House Committee

Yesterday, the House Judiciary Committee passed House Bills 4416, 4417, 4418 and 4419 with a 6-4 vote.  This package of bills would remove the requirement to obtain a concealed pistol license (CPL) in order to lawfully carry a firearm.  These bills would also make the current licensing system optional to allow citizens to obtain a license and take advantage of reciprocity agreements with other states.  HBs 4416, 4417, 4418 and 4419 will now go to the House floor for consideration by the full House of Representatives.  Please contact your state Representative and urge them to SUPPORT these bills!  Click the “Take Action” button below to contact your state Representative.

HBs 4416, 4417, 4418 and 4419 recognize an individual’s unconditional Right to Keep and Bear Arms for self-defense in the manner he or she chooses.  Self-defense situations are difficult, if not impossible, to anticipate.  Accordingly, a law-abiding adult’s right to defend himself or herself in such situations should not be conditioned by government-mandated time delays and taxes.  Twelve states currently have laws which allow law-abiding individuals to possess a concealed firearm for self-defense without a permit.
