California: Gun Owners Score a Win on One Gun a Month Bill

Contact your State Legislator TODAY – They MUST Hear from You

Today, gun owners scored a win in California when anti-gun bill SB 497 was significantly amended in the Assembly Appropriations Committee to remove language extending California’s one handgun a month to all guns.  With the removal of the problematic language, SB 497 now exclusively deals with the storage of firearms by peace officers in unattended vehicles.

As the California Legislature enters the final two weeks of the 2017 session, your state legislators still need to hear from you on the remaining anti-gun bills. Please use our TAKE ACTION button below to email your State Senator and Assembly Member urging them to OPPOSE AJR 24, SB 464, AB 7, and AB 424.  If you would like to call your state legislator please click here to find their contact information.

Currently Pending in the Assembly:

Assembly Joint Resolution 24 passed the Assembly Public Safety Committee on August 31 and is eligible for a vote on the Assembly Floor.  Sponsored by Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-53), AJR 24 would urge the Congress of the United States to not enact S. 446, H.R. 38, or any other similar “concealed carry reciprocity” legislation that would require the State of California to recognize the concealed carry standards of every other state.

Currently Pending in the Senate:

Senate Bill 464 passed the Assembly on August 24 and is eligible for a concurrence vote in the Senate. Sponsored by Senator Jerry Hill (D-13), SB 464 would further increase the mandatory storage and security requirements for licensed firearms dealers. California already has some of the strictest laws in the country regarding how dealers must store and secure firearms.  This bill simply places more costs and mandates on law-abiding business owners.

Assembly Bill 7 passed the Senate Appropriations Committee on September 1 and is eligible for a vote on the Senate Floor.  Sponsored by Mike Gipson (D-64), AB 7 would further restrict the open carry of an unloaded firearm on public property by including unincorporated areas as prohibited places.

Assembly Bill 424 is eligible for a vote on the Senate Floor.   Sponsored by Assembly Member Kevin McCarty (D-7), AB 424 would remove the authority of a school district superintendent, his or her designee, or equivalent school authority to provide written permission for a person to possess a firearm within a school zone.

Do not give up the fight!  Continue to CALL and EMAIL your State Legislators.  They need to hear from you as we enter the final weeks of the 2017 legislative session.
