Man shoots at burglar inside south Huntsville home

A Huntsville homeowner scared away a would-be burglar Thursday morning when he shot at him inside his south Huntsville home. Huntsville police answered the call at a home on Maplecrest Drive between Hillwood Drive and Chicamauga Trail around 5:15 a.m. The homeowner told WAAY 31 he woke up and heard someone in his home, so he grabbed a shotgun from under his bed. The homeowner said he saw a man in the home and shot at him one time, hitting a bathroom door. The intruder ran from the home. Huntsville police searched the area with a K-9 unit but have not taken anyone into custody. The homeowner said it didn't appear that the intruder was able to take anything from the home.
