Michigan: Senate to Vote on Self-Defense Bills

Michigan: Senate to Vote on Self-Defense Bills

Today, the Michigan state Senate Government Operations Committee passed Senate Bills 05840585, and 0586 with a 3-2 vote.  This set of bills will address gun-free zones where law-abiding citizens are left defenseless and will be brought up for a vote in the state Senate tomorrow.  In addition, Senate Bill 527, which ensures that law-abiding citizens are not stripped of their Second Amendment rights when they choose to provide foster care to children, will also come up for a vote.  Please contact your state Senator and urge them to SUPPORT these bills.  Click the “Take Action” button below to contact your state Senator.

So called gun-free zones leave law-abiding citizens defenseless while doing nothing to address criminals who carry firearms illegally.  Senate Bills 0584, 0585, and 0586 will reform gun free zones to ensure that law-abiding citizens who are licensed to carry firearms are not left defenseless once they cross arbitrary thresholds into certain areas.

Senate Bill 0527 would protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners to possess on their person or store, in a locked container, firearms and ammunition while in the presence of a foster child or on the premises of a foster home. As shown by recent events, anti-gun bureaucrats at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services have been forcing foster parents to choose between their Second Amendment rights or their children.  Foster parents are like any other parents who simply want to care for their children, including exercising their Second Amendment rights in order to protect their families. The needs of foster children should be placed above any anti-gun agenda.

Again, please click the “Take Action” button above to contact and your state Senator to urge them to support these bills!
