Tennessee: Pro-Gun Bills Considered in Two Subcommittees

Tomorrow, the House Finance, Ways and Means Subcommittee is scheduled to consider a piece of pro-gun legislation.  Please contact the members of the House Finance, Ways and Means Subcommittee and ask them to support the pro-gun measure.

House Bill 2183 – Exempts the purchase of gun safes from the sales and use tax.  Gun safety is one of the National Rifle Association’s top priorities and NRA believes that storage practices should remain the responsibility of the individual firearm owner, not the government.  This legislation seeks to expand law-abiding gun owners’ ability to store their firearms in a way that best suits their needs.  It is sponsored by Rep. William Lamberth (R-44).

Also tomorrow, the House Civil Justice Subcommittee is scheduled to consider several pro-gun bills.  Please contact the members of the House Civil Justice Subcommittee and urge them to support these pro-gun measures.

House Bill 1566 – Eliminates the requirement that a retired law enforcement officer must be a state resident at the time of retirement to be eligible for the issuance of a lifetime handgun carry permit for $100.  It is sponsored by Rep. Dan Howell (R-22).

House Bill 2485 – Allows the carrying of a handgun by law-abiding individuals qualified to carry a firearm for self-defense in publically accessible areas outside of the secured sections of airports, and on public transportation.  It would also prevent localities from issuing regulations to conflict with these provisions.  It is sponsored by Rep. Andrew Holt (R-76).

House Bill 2547 – Reduces the lifetime handgun carry permit fee for military service members who retire after 20 years of military service with an honorable discharge.  It is sponsored by Rep. Dawn White (R-37).

Again, please click the “Take Action” button above to contact the members of the Finance, Ways and means Subcommittee and the Civil Justice Subcommittee and urge them to support the above legislation.
