Your NRA-ILA has learned that Senator Paul Anderson and Scott Jensen plan on proposing two gun control measures that only seek to further burden the right of law-abiding gun owners.
The first proposal, Senate File 3278, would require a person who lawfully possesses a firearm to report the loss or theft of the firearm to their local law-enforcement agency within 14 days after such person discovers the loss or theft or be charged with a petty misdemeanor. This legislation punishes the victim instead of the criminal. Individuals should not be further victimized after experiencing a burglary or other loss.
The second proposed measure, Senate File 3279, would ban the private transfer of firearms in the state of Minnesota without first having to undergo a background check and paying the associated fees.
Your NRA-ILA will continue to monitor these measures. Please stay-tuned to your inbox and NRA-ILA alerts for more information when available. Also, contact members of the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee in opposition to these bills.
