Tennessee: Tuesday Committee Hearings Scheduled for Anti-Gun Bills

On Tuesday, April 3, multiple committees have scheduled hearings to consider a slate of gun control bills.  Please click the “Take Action” button below to contact committee members about these measures.

The Senate Judiciary Committee will consider anti-gun legislation, Senate Bills 670, 1472 and 2356.

Senate Bill 670 would allow the issuance of a temporary order of protection preventing a person to possess a firearm based on a law enforcement officer’s judgement that the person is a danger to another person.  This bill would violate your right to due process. 

Senate Bill 1472 makes it a crime to knowingly possess a device that is designed or functions to accelerate the rate of fire of a semi-automatic firearm.  The broad and overreaching provisions in this legislation could potentially criminalize firearm modifications such as competition triggers, and ergonomic changes that are commonly done by law-abiding gun owners to make their firearms more suitable for self-defense, competition, hunting, or even overcoming disability.

Senate Bill 2356’s House companion bill was amended in the House subcommittee and if SB 2356 is amended in the Senate, it would impose an arbitrary age limit on purchasing commonly-owned firearms by creating a broad definition of so-called “assault weapons” that includes centerfire semi-automatic rifles with a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds, a semi-automatic pistol that is threaded for a suppressor or the capacity to hold a fixed magazine with more than 10 rounds.

Please contact members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and strongly urge them to OPPOSE the above anti-gun measures.

The House Civil Justice Subcommittee is scheduled to consider the companion bills of the above listed legislation.  Those bills include:
