Minnesota: Senate Votes Down Anti-Gun Amendments on Floor

Yesterday, the Minnesota Senate defeated two gun control amendments introduced by Senator Ron Latz.

The first proposed amendment sought to impose so-called “universal” background checks for most private transfers of a “pistol or semi-automatic military assault weapon” with limited exceptions.

The second would have created “Extreme Risk Protection Orders” that would allow for a chief law enforcement officer or designee to petition the court for an ex parte order to remove an individual’s Second Amendment rights with little to no due process.

Thank you to NRA members and Second Amendment supporters who contacted their lawmakers in opposition to these anti-gun measures.  Also, thank you to those lawmakers who voted in opposition to these and other gun control measures.  Special thanks to Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka and President Pro Temp. Warren Limmmer.

Also yesterday, the House Ways and Means Committee approved a pro-gun amendment to House File 3502.  This amendment would require the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to provide a link to the Secretary of State’s voter registration website to those who are purchasing a license online. Under this pro-gun amendment, any person who purchases a hunting, fishing or trapping license on the DNR website will be provided a link to the voter registration application.

Special thanks to Speaker Kurt Daudt and House Environment Committee Chairman Dan Fabian for not only their continued efforts at defeating gun control legislation but also for their efforts in guiding Hunter Voter legislation through the process and getting it passed in the House Ways and Means Committee.
