Yesterday, the Vermont House passed waiting period legislation S.169 by an 82 to 58 vote. Having now passed both the Senate and the House, S.169 will now head to the desk of Governor Phil Scott for his consideration. It is very important that NRA Members and Second Amendment supporters contact Governor Scott at 802-828-333 or by email and politely urge him to VETO S.169 when it gets to his desk.
This bill would create a 24-hour waiting period on the purchase of handguns. There is no evidence that waiting periods are effective. This bill would essentially end gun shows and banquets. However, even more troubling, this legislation would put in jeopardy vulnerable individuals who have an urgent self-defense need. This is a clear infringement on the constitutional right to self-defense.
