New Hampshire: House Committee to Vote on Private Transfer Ban & Waiting Period Bills

On January 28^th, the New Hampshire House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee will hold an executive session to vote on House Bill 1379-FN and House Bill 1101-FN, sponsored by Representative Rogers (D-Merrimack 28). Please contact committee members and ask them to OPPOSE House Bill 1379-FN and House Bill 1101-FN.

House Bill 1379-FN essentially bans the private transfer of firearms, with few exemptions. This bill requires private individuals to pay for background checks through Federal Firearm Licensed (FFL) Dealers and obtain government permission before selling, gifting, or exchanging their firearms with friends, neighbors, fellow hunters, or extended family members. This legislation unduly burdens law-abiding citizens and is unenforceable without gun registration.

House Bill 1101-FN delays Second Amendment rights by imposing a three day waiting period (excluding weekends and legal holidays) before an individual may receive a firearm that they lawfully purchase. There is no evidence that waiting periods reduce crime. This legislation is just another attempt by anti-gun legislators to impose arbitrary government restrictions on law-abiding gun owners.
