Iowa General Assembly Adjourns Sine Die

Last night, the General Assembly adjourned sine die from the 2021 session of the 2021-2022 General Assembly. This was a productive year, with the General Assembly passing legislation to protect and advance Second Amendment rights for law-abiding citizens while stopping all anti-gun bills.

This year, the General Assembly passed House File 756, for permitless carry, and House File 621, to protect the firearm industry from frivolous lawsuits. Iowa was one of four states to pass permitless/constitutional carry this year, making for a total of 20 states recognizing that law-abiding citizens should have their right to self-defense without having to obtain government permission. HF 621 sent the message that Iowa will not allow anti-gun extremists to use politically motivated, frivolous lawsuits to cut off access to Second Amendment rights. Governor Kim Reynolds has signed both of these bills into law.

In addition, the General Assembly also passed Senate Joint Resolution 7, to propose an amendment to the state Constitution affirming and recognizing the right of Iowans’ to keep and bear arms as a fundamental individual right. Because this proposed amendment passed the 2019-2020 General Assembly previously, it will be on the ballot for Iowa voters in 2022.

NRA will be back in Des Moines for the 2022 session. Please stay tuned to www.nraila.org and your email inbox.
