Yesterday, the General Assembly adjourned from its 2021 legislative session. Thanks to NRA members and other Second Amendment supporters contacting their lawmakers, this was a good session for law-abiding gun owners in Illinois, in that no anti-gun measures are going to the governor’s desk.
Once again, anti-gun lawmakers tried to pass legislation to make it harder and more expensive for law-abiding citizens to obtain a FOID, and to ban private firearm transfers. That bill, House Bill 1091, was defeated when the Senate adjourned without taking action.
House Bill 1092, to expand Illinois’ program of suspending Second Amendment rights without due process, did not receive concurrence in the House. House Bill 3222, requiring citizens to pay fees to register lawfully owned firearms, and House Bill 4055, to severely restrict the centuries old practice of home-building firearms for personal use, were stopped before receiving committee hearings in the House.
