Virginia: General Assembly Adjourns Sine Die from 2022 Session

Virginia: General Assembly Adjourns Sine Die from 2022 Session

On Saturday, the Virginia General Assembly adjourned sine die from its 2022 legislative session. During this session, the House passed a number of pro-Second Amendment bills in an effort to begin to roll back the Northam-era gun control laws. These included a repeal of the “red-flag” firearm seizure law previously passed in 2020, marking the first time any chamber of any state legislature has passed such a repeal.

Unfortunately, the Senate Judiciary Committee not only rejected all of the pro-gun Senate bills, but they also rejected the ones received from the House. This was not unexpected, however, because the Senate remains under the control of the same Bloomberg-backed lawmakers who passed the anti-gun schemes the past two sessions. The entire Senate will be up for re-election in 2023.

Fortunately, the General Assembly did pass Senate Bill 8 with strong bipartisan support, to allow Sunday hunting on public lands. It is currently on its way to Governor Glenn Youngkin’s desk for his consideration.

NRA thanks all the lawmakers who supported Virginia’s gun owners and hunters this session. Please stay tuned to www.nraila.org and your email inbox for further updates.
