Colorado: Legislature Adjourns from the 2022 Legislative Session

Yesterday, the Colorado Legislature adjourned from its 2022 Legislative Session, having passed some good, and some bad, legislation in the process.

This year, the legislature sent two gun bills to the desk of Governor Jared Polis: pro-gun, House Bill 22-1168 and anti-gun, House Bill 22-1086.  Both measures were signed into law.

House Bill 22-1168 allows local education providers, upon entering into an agreement with an individual or entity that offers hunter education courses certified by the division of parks and wildlife (division), to provide a hunter education course (course) to all seventh graders. The course must satisfy the requirements of a hunter education course certified by the division; except that hands-on activities are not required. The course must be taught by a division-certified instructor. A parent or legal guardian must provide permission for a student to participate in any hands-on activities that are offered as part of the course.

House Bill 22-1086 “The Vote Without Fear Act” - The title itself is enough to know that sponsors and supporters of this measure hate your Second Amendment rights.  HB 1086 bans the open carry of a firearm at voting locations in the Centennial state.  It is the intention of this measure to prohibit you from exercising one of your constitutional rights while engaging in another.

Thank you to NRA Members and Second Amendment supporters who stayed in constant contact with their lawmakers during this session.  Also, thank you to the legislators who voted in support of our Second Amendment rights and worked to prevent more anti-gun legislation from being passed.
